MagniComp(tm) announces the General Availability (GA) release of SysInfo(tm) 6.0. This release introduces support for the Microsoft Windows platform, I18N internationalization, improves performance, enhancements to software discovery, and much more.

NEW PLATFORM SUPPORT

Support for the following platforms is introduced in this release:

Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, and 2003 are now supported on 32-bit X86 and 64-bit X64 (AMD64/EM64T) systems.

NEW FEATURES

The SysInfo 6.0 release introduces support for new features focusing on support for Microsoft Windows, performance, and internationalization.

The major new features are:

Software Discovery for third party applications has been improved. We have introduced a new framework for discovering third party software which does not register itself with the operating system's software registry. This release supports the discovery of Apache HTTP Web Server, BEA WebLogic Server, IBM WebSphere, Oracle Database, Oracle Application Server, Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise, Tibco Enterprise Message Service, and Tibco Rendezvous. Support for discovering other major software applications will continue to be added in future releases based on customer demand.
I18N Internalization is now implemented. When the --format report --widechar options are used, the output will be in wide character format. SysInfo field labels will be in English and the data fields will be in whatever localized language the operating system provides the data in.
Runtime performance improvements, especially at startup have been made. The previous SysInfo shell based wrapper has been replaced with a binary wrapper and the whole SysInfo runtime process pipeline has been streamlined.
Software class discovery is much faster on most platforms.
Multiple versions of software products are now reported. Previous release supported the ability to only report on the first version of a software product even if multiple versions of the same product were found.
The Language Locale of a system is now reported in the General class data.
The Up Time of a system (time since system boot) is now reported in the General class data.
Hardware device database of PCI devices has increased 27% to more than 14,000 entries.

LICENSING

This release will run in demo mode with full functionality for thirty (30) days. Permanent licenses are available for purchase from the MagniComp Customer Service Center online at

Customers with valid maintenance agreements can also receive free license upgrades from the same online Customer Service Center.

The Storage System class requires a license in order to use this feature. A Storage System Base license is built into the SysInfo product and provides basic storage system data such as make, model, serial number, and storage capacity. A Storage System Professional license is required to receive the full spectrum of storage system data. A demo license of Storage System Professional is built into the SysInfo product and is enabled automatically for 30 days - with or without a permanent SysInfo product license - after which time the license reverts to a Storage System Base level. You always need a valid demo or permanent SysInfo product license in order to use any edition of the Storage System feature.
