SysInfo(TM) 4.1 Announcement

MagniComp(TM)
is pleased to announce the availability of
SysInfo(TM)
version 4.1 (FINAL). SysInfo provides highly detailed data on
Unix/Linux based systems. System Administrators can use SysInfo to
obtain a current view operating system configuration, installed
hardware including very low level device attributes, installed software,
disk
partitioning, and kernel parameters.
SysInfo can provide detailed system data via its GUI, Command Line Interface (CLI) output in human readable format, CLI output in program parsable format,
and via C and Perl API's.
SysInfo is available in pre-compiled binary formats. Full source code can
also be downloaded and built.
New Features
This release contains the following significant new features:
- A Graphical User Interface (GUI) is now provided and is started by
default whenever the environment supports it. The traditional Command
Line Interface (CLI) is used otherwise or when a user specifies the -nw
(no window) option on the command line. Screenshots are available at

- A Perl object API called mcSysInfo is now provided. Documentation can
be found in mcsysinfoperl(3). The SysInfo GUI is built on top of
mcSysInfo.
- Up to 20X performance improvement retrieving hardware class data has
been achieved on Sun's which have Veritas and/or Sun DiskSuite software
installed.
- Improved device idenfication, particularly for disks, on Linux.
- Major documentation updates including adding more descriptions of
-format report output and re-organizing man pages into smaller files.
- Detailed CPU information is now provided for device class data. The new
data includes everything from CPU clock speed, manufacturer, and model
to detailed cache data.
- The system's CPU Speed is now displayed under general class data.
- Sun Fire hardware support has been added.
- Improved device information, especially memory configuration, on SGI
IRIX systems.
- The usual assortment of hardware and OS updates for most platforms.
Bug Fixes
The following is a list of major bug fixes and changes:
- Changed units of PartInfo_t.{Size,AmtUsed} from bytes to MB to fix
address space limitations on some platforms.
- Many other bugs have also been fixed.
